Iconic Architecture
Putra Mosque
Putra Mosque is the most popular landmark in Putrajaya and is also said to be one of the world’s most beautiful mosques. Putra Mosque, built in 1999 cleverly integrates traditional Malay architectural concepts with that of Middle Eastern architecture. The mosque’s pink domes are made of rose-coloured granite is an example of how mosque designs have evolved in Malaysia, where Islamic architecture combines traditional design, local works of art and the use of natural materials. Putra Mosque is divided into three main areas, namely prayer hall, the Sahn or courtyard, various learning facilities and function rooms. The mosque is capable of hosting up to 15,000 worshippers at any one time.
