ECOHYDROLOGY MANAGEMENT OF PUTRAJAYA LAKE AND WETLAND

Putrajaya, A City in a Garden turns to nature for inspiration, resulting in a landscape dominated by the picturesque Putrajaya Lake.  The lake primarily designed and developed to be used for water sports and recreational activities as well as tourist attraction.  Therefore, a high standard of lake water quality is the vital factor for the success of the vision and the solution was found with the construction of Putrajaya Wetland. The wetland demonstrates benefit of incorporating this unique ecosystem into urban area for sustainable development and treatment of catchment runoff. Additionally, the wetland helps in flood mitigation, serve as breeding grounds, nurseries and homes to numerous flora and fauna, also creates a conducive environment for residents to live, work and play.  This is only possible through the strategic planning exercise in implementing the ecohydrology concept of integrated Putrajaya Lake and Wetland basin management.
