Iconic Architecture
Melawati Palace
Melawati Palace situated on the highest peak in Putrajaya is a visiting palace and the second Palace of the Di-pertuan Agong of Malaysia after the National Palace in Kuala Lumpur. The name of the palace was given by the Yang Di-pertuan Agong Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah of Selangor. The palace was constructed in 1999 and was completed in 2002. With a resort concept, it is the country's first modern palace to adapt traditional Malay royal architecture in its design. One such interesting architecture synonymous with the Malay world is in its five-ridge roof reminiscent of the old guard towers in the Malay palaces of the olden days. The three-layered roof, intrinsic pavilions and the “buah butong” potteries is an attempt to recreate the traditional Malay roof design of the East Coast.
